Top Ten Greatest Disco Hotties

March 3rd, 2010

Disco OutfitsWho can deny that big hair, slimming clothes and bold, bright patterns are sexy?  Throw in some smooth dances moves and we’re all a little short of breath.  Get steamy with this list of the sexiest disco men and women ever to grace the soundwaves and screens.

10) Disco Stu – this Simpson’s favorite is drop dead gorgeous next to Homer and Mr. Burns, but what really knocks your socks off is how he always refers to himself in the third person, “Disco Stu’s gonna rock your world!”

9) Gloria Gaynor – this woman could shake it down on one side of the album and get soulful and smooth on the other.  A true disco diva, she’s still got it decades later.

8)  K.C. and the Sunshine Band – rock the dance floor with any one of the band members.  That’s the way, uh huh, uh huh, we like it.

7)  Anita Randazzo/Salma Hayek – sultry, sexy and killer with disco or the samba this woman rocks.  While the movie 54 was a bomb, Salma was a knock out, as always.

6) Bee Gees – give me any member of the Brothers Gibb, but the R&B sounds of Barry could really belt out the disco.  Any way you look at it, these boys are Stayin’ Alive.

5)  Foxxy Cleopatra – who could forget Beyoncé in her role as the hot sidekick of ultra suave Austin Powers in Goldmember.  The girl could shoot a gun, roller boogie and catch the bad guys while still looking gorgeous.

4)  Eddie Adams/Dirk Diggler/Mark Wahlberg – while not strictly a disco man, he did look completely smoking in Disco OutfitsBoogie Nights.  None can deny this man his assets and even the dark subject matter of the movie couldn’t dull his shine.

3)  Stephanie Mangano/Karen Lynn Gorney – Tony’s chilly partner in Saturday Night Fever, this girl eventually thawed and went on to heat up the screen.  She’s truly More Than a Woman and has the dance moves to prove it.

2)  Donna Summer – the Queen of Disco herself, Summer is still hot now and Love to Love You Baby will never go away.  “Thank God It’s Friday” may have tanked a little, but Donna’s sexy voice and killer body gave her the last laugh.  Or was that the Last Dance?

1)  Tony Manero/John Travolta – OK, absolutely nothing is sexier than Travolta in a polyester suit waving that tight little rear around.  The fact that he can actually sing (remember Grease?) and those haunting eyes just makes this man the obvious number one.  Irresistible, hands down (and then way, way up in the air and down again, work it baby!)

Long live hot, timeless disco lovers everywhere!

Santa Fusion

December 12th, 2009

NBC New York reports that the global phenomenon that is Santacon is descending upon New York City, and other locations, today – Saturday December12th.

Since anyone and everyone is welcome to join in the mayhem, NBC was kind enough to remind all potential Santaconners of the three basic rules of all Santacon events. The first and most important of which, and the only one I’m going to talk about,  . . .

Rule No. 1: Dressing up is mandatory. And that doesn’t mean phoning it in with a red hat. You need to go full Santa. Creativity is encouraged.

Of course it’s perfectly acceptable to arrive, dressed in classic Santa attire, but it’s so much more fun to add a sprinkle of creativity, a dash of uniqueness, and a big old heaping serving of weird to your look.

Santa Fusion is a good place to start. Fusion happens when we take one costume and mash it together with another, creating something really fun. Here are few Santa Fusion ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

santa-elvis

Santa Elvis –  Wear an Elvis wig, along with a Santa suit all tailored out ( keep those pants bottoms wide) and a sequined red cape.

disco-santa

Disco Santa – How about a nice white afro to start? Don’t know why that guy in the photo didn’t think of that. Then either wear red bell bottoms, and a red sequined disco shirt, with some white marabou fluff added or wear a Santa Suit unbuttoned to the navel with the Santa pants tailored to give you that flared disco look. Add some big flashy glasses, shiny necklaces, a Santa hat, and platform shoes and you’re good to go. Girls, if you are doing your own Disco Santa look, we’ve got a ton of great Santa costumes for you and some gloves that it would be a crime not to wear.

Stripper Santa – I got this idea watching Ellen. Wear the Santa pants and hat from the classic Santa suit. No shirt for you though. You are going bare-chested with only white bow tie and cuffs. Even Ellen’s Hunky Santa’s didn’t think of that!

gangster santa

Gangster Santa – Red pinstriped pants, Santa’s jacket, along with a tommy gun, classic Santa wig and beard, topped off with a red fedora with a white band

grinch-santa

Grinch Santa – Take that classic Santa suit, wear only the jacket, add some green tights, and red elf shoes. Then add some green face paint or buy the full-on Grinch mask. Some green gloves with long spindly fingers would be a nice touch as well.

Darth_Claus

Darth Claus – Jump into your handy-dandy Darth Vader costume, add one red cape, preferably something velour or befitting the North Pole. Add some fluff at the cuffs, a nice Santa beard, and maybe even candy cane striped light saber.

pirate_santa

Pirate Santa – Santa and Pirates fuse really well. For the simplest approach, start with a classic Santa suit, add pirate boots, stick a pirate sword in your belt, a great pirate hat, either Santa’s beard and wig or a black pirate wig and beard. Top it off with a hook or an eye patch.

candy cane mohawksantaclausmohawk

Punk Santa – If you’ve already got, or are willing to get a Mohawk, just bleach it white. Add some big black biker or combat boots and some spikes and studs around your neck and wrist to the classic Santa suit. Wearing the Santa beard is totally optional. The candy cane Mohawk is a whole other project that I wish you much luck on.

super santa in whiteSuperSanta

Super Santa – There are so many directions to go with this one. Just remember this: real superheroes wear tights and always wear their underwear on top. I’d go with red spandex tights and top, candy cane bottoms/underwear, a black Santa belt, a red or green cape, a Santa hat of almost any variety, and either black boots, Santa GoGo Boots or maybe I’d use the Wonder Woman boots to give it the total superhero feel.

Santacon events happen all over the place, all through the month of December. Keep your eyes open and get involved. Be creative and try a little Santa Fusion.

Spring Break!!!!

April 6th, 2009

You’ve been in the classroom, hitting the books, writing papers, and studying hard. You need a break, don’t’ you? Yeah, we all know you have done nothing but school work since the fall. Not one night off, no bars for you, just nose to the grindstone. Right! If you were that kind of college student, you wouldn’t even know it’s time for Spring Break. You’d be off in the library prepping for your next big research paper.

Sexy Clubwear and Stilettos for your Spring Cruise

March 15th, 2009
Ok, now that you have chosen your swimwear it is time to consider your clubwear and the pumps and high heels to match. For late nite Disco Fun, I would recommend the staple sexy black mini dress paired with some awe inspiring leg enhancing high  heels. If the color red is your thing a slinky red mini dress will do the trick just right. Oh and how about a pair of rhinestone sandals for that extra rich flair.

Viewing Parties

March 11th, 2009

What’s your favorite TV show? The one you will reschedule other events in your life just to watch? The one you look forward to watching all week long?  Are you among the millions American Idol faithful? Can’t get enough of Lost? Are you sure to be found watching the latest episode of Heroes every week? Or maybe it’s one of the newest additions to the TV lineup that has your viewing attention. Something like Life on Mars, maybe?

favorite-tv-shows

If you are going to be a big old TV show fanatic, you might as well do it right. I’m thinking that our favorite shows ought to be watched like the sports fans do with their weekly sports. They get together, meet up in front of a big screen television wearing the colors or jerseys of their team, cheer, and make it a group event. Weekly viewing parties, with people just like you, watching your favorite show are totally the way to go. Don’t just wait for the big finale to get together. Have fun every week like this.

Don’t meet up just to watch though. Think of how those sports lovers dress up for the event and follow their model. How about wear your Rock Star or Pop Star best when you get together to watch the newest American Idol contestants strut their stuff. Flashy outfits, lots of sequins, boas, and wild looks is the way to watch that show. Then you will really feel qualified to offer all your criticism.

Mean Old SimonDress like Paula and jump and dance when someone gets rockin’ or wear a plain t-shirt and jeans to do your best Simon Cowell impersonation.

For a show like Lost, you could always dress up as one of the characters or you could dress up in some other costume inspired by the show or the characters. Dress all tropical islander, be a doctor like Jack, a conman like Sawyer, or a scientist like many of the Dharma folk. There are so many possibilities here, change it up every week.

Hiro with a SwordHeroes could be one of the funnest shows to dress up for. You could dress like one of the heroes, all in black, as a politician, a policeman, with a big scar across your face like Peter, carrying a Samurai Sword like Hiro, or in a cheerleader costume like Claire. Or you could always step into your nearest phone booth and slip into any superhero costume. You could even wear a classic superhero costume. So what if they aren’t a character on the show? A hero is a hero and any superhero costume is fun to wear!

A Life of Mars viewing party could have a gathering of faithful viewers dressed as cops, detectives, and folks from the 70s. What fun that would be!

Whatever your show, gather your friends, have everyone bring food and drinks, dress up and watch your favorite show together. What a great way to take something ordinary and everyday and make it really fun.

This is the Party that will be all the Rage in 2009

January 19th, 2009

I have the secret inside scoop. So please handle the following highly classified information with extreme care. I can’t give you names and dates – that would put my life in jeopardy – but I can tell you this. Through a bunch of random, serendipitous, and chance meetings, emails, and conversations I have discovered what THE big celebration/party event is for 2009.

Disco Roller Parties will be all the rage in 2009. So if you want to be hipper than hip, the coolest of the cool, on the very cutting edge of all things awesome, make your next party a Disco Roller Party. Rent out a roller rink. Apparently this is quite easy. Hire the roller rink DJ, then either supply the funky 70’s tunes or see if your DJ can dig them up. Get some cool disco party decorations and have your guests wear their best disco, 70’s or 80’s outfits.

When your friends arrive whether wearing their flared pants, afro wigs, and sequined shirts, or tube tops, short shorts and striped socks, they’ll be ready to get down. Just have the drinks ready and the funky music blasting and the rest will be party history.

Jack-O-Licious

January 3rd, 2009

Love it or hate it, I bet you watched at least some of it. The Rose Parade takes over television sets across America on the first day of every year. It wouldn’t be a new year without it. There’s always something in the parade for everyone. Personally, I take the marching bands and equestrian processions as my time to visit the bathroom. There are two things that I really like – really creative floats and totally cool costumes.

The Jack-O-licious float got my attention. It had the big (headed) man himself, Jack, in the middle of a floating Disco Party. Perfect for the New Year since disco parties are such a popular theme for New Year’s Eve parties. You had to just love Jack’s band, looking all Saturday Night Live-ish! This is the ultimate disco suit - it says shake your groove-thang like no other. Next time you are heading for a disco theme party, keep the Jack-O-Licious float in mind. Dress yourself up in a disco suit, in a glitter shirt, or a wild disco dress and you’ll be ready to go.
